Tour de Vet – week 2 update

A typical Bank Holiday Monday – rain! We were very fortunate that Vicky’s sister, Lizzie, has happily joined Mike to support him on his trip. lizzieHaving learnt lessons from the devastating loss of Vicky, Lizzie has a collar (what irresponsible owner would take a dog out without a collar anyway!) and is securely attached to the bike.

Mike and his new faithful partner peddled to Guildford through rain all the way and stayed in a castle! Apparently the hotel was full and they were the only people in the castle next door with a moat and everything! Well, at least that’s Mike’s story!

tdv-castleMaybe news of his arrival had preceded him and they decided to separate him from his adoring public!

Lizzie was chipped by feline vet, Muna Roberts, to ensure her safety one step further. Thank you Muna.

Well, both Mike & Lizzie had a very restful night, as you can imagine and it was probably well deserved given the weather conditions which remained throughout the next day on another challenging trip to Aldershot, managing to get lost a couple of times on the way.

Mike arrived two minutes before the start time for a BP practical with cats at MYF Training on behalf of and with Claire Roberts of Synergy CPD.

Fortunately, the next overnight stop was only a short distance (although still in the rain!) at Mychett but oh how the mighty have fallen! One night in a castle – one night in a truck stop by the canal – what a contrast!

lizzie-park-vetsThe morning dawned and it was a relaxed ride to Watford, skirting Windsor on the way. Timing was good and Mike even managed a quick call into Park Vets before the session the next day. The session at Park Vets involved capnography and all went well with Lizzie getting a crash course as well.

What an amazing place Park Vets is! Apparently it was the site of a WW2 fighter control communication bunker.

mike and BillThe amazing Mr Bill Star kindly accompanied Mike as far as Wheathampstead and two minutes after he left, the heavens opened and it bucketed down! Wet again! Added to this Mike dropped his phone in the rush to get his waterproofs on and the screen shattered. However, Lizzie stayed put!

It was head down and onto Godmanchester and Huntingdon to the next stop and lodging for the night with Mr Mark Hedberg MRCVS, the Short Course manager at CAW (College of Animal Welfare) ready for the next day.

A big than you to Mark & his wife for accommodating Mike 🙂
